The Journey Continues

Broken Voices - Tuesday, October 27, 2009
It's hard to believe we have been on the road and away from home for an entire month! We will be posting more "thoughts from the road" in the next few days. For now, here's a few snap shots for you to enjoy as the journey continues!

Windy City

Broken Voices - Saturday, October 24, 2009

It was almost seven weeks ago that our team kicked off the fall tour in Atlanta on the GA Tech campus. Since that incredible night, it has been a beautiful blur of faces, highways, events, conversations, and cities. We are meeting people who are choosing to get off the couch and use their lives to be a part of God’s story! These have been marking weeks for our team and we believe this is only the beginning.

Today we are in beautiful Chicago. After an incredible time with students at Moody we are resting and looking forward to an event with Judson University before leaving town on Monday. Join us as we ask God to awaken His church to move towards loving and serving a broken world!

A Faint Whisper

Broken Voices - Saturday, October 17, 2009
By: Andrew Morgan

When we started Broken Voices, all there was in the beginning was a faint whisper, an idea that could barely be voiced, a dream that softly called. We still laugh now about an event we hosted for friends and family a couple of years ago - we were excited, we just didn’t know what we were excited about!

As we began to take simple steps, the whisper slowly turned into bold and clear leading. We merely brought the things we were good at and combined them with a growing need we saw in the world. “God we are all in on Your plan and Your story! How do You want to use our lives?” He answered that prayer and has not stopped stretching and growing us.

On tour this fall, I have talked with countless people who are asking how to hear God’s voice - How do I find His clear calling and understandable path for my life? These are understandable question I used to ask. What I’ve found though is that these questions can lead us to a very lonely and frustrated place.

God’s constant invitation on our lives is to trust.

In his book: “Ruthless Trust”, author Brennan Manning defines trust as, “A movement into obscurity, into the undefined, into ambiguity, not into some predetermined, clearly delineated plan for the future. The next step discloses itself only out of a discernment of God acting in the desert of the present moment. The reality of naked trust is the life of a pilgrim who leaves what is nailed down, obvious, and secure and walks into the unknown without any rational explanation to justify the decision or guarantee the future. Why? Because God has signaled the movement and offered it his presence and promise.”

God is inviting us to trust Him - the kind of trust that is a choice before we know the plan. Direction might not come for you in the form of a clear long-term diagram; it could be little more than a faint whisper. Listen, take steps forward, and the whisper will become a beautiful voice leading you to the life you were made to live.

Last Week

Broken Voices - Sunday, October 11, 2009
It's hard to  believe that we have completed 15 events already! It has been an absolute privilege to meet so many new people and hear their incredible stories. God is moving and we are seeing an awakening that is going to change the world. That may sound like a bold claim but we are seeing people join the story God is writing in unbelievable ways.

Right now our team is preparing for a benefit roping in the heart of Arkansas. We'll have more on that soon - but for now, enjoy a look back on the past week!

Geography Questions

Broken Voices - Saturday, October 03, 2009
By Guest writer Jon Acuff

I've been wrestling with the idea of "place" lately. I have this overwhelming feeling that God wants me somewhere else. Whether that's a product of immaturity or selfishness, there's a part of me that loves to focus on there instead of here.

It's sexier to think your mission in life is going to involve some sort of adventure with a rope ladder over a raging river full of piranha as you carry a vaccine and the hope of the gospel to a lost tribe of people that will eventually give you a wicked cool village nickname (mine would be Rik-Rok) and perhaps your own machete. It's a lot less exciting to think that maybe you're already in a mission field and the annoying guy who you pass TPS reports to needs the love of God.

I get caught up in that attitude and when I do, I eventually start peppering God with geography questions. Have you ever said to God:

Where do you want me? This doesn't feel like where I'm supposed to be God, can you please give me a sign? Can you tell me where you want me to go? Is this job, is this relationship, is this church, is this city where you want me to be?

Do you want me to move cities? States? Countries? Continents?

I fire off thousands of questions at God that center around the longitude and latitude of my life. And do you know how God answers me? Do you know how I promise He will answer you if you ask Him those kinds of questions? The first answer God always gives when we say, "God, where do you want me to go?"

"In my presence."

We won't get a city name first or a country or a street address. God isn't Google Maps. Punch in as many prayers as you want, but more than anything else, God is going to say the same thing to you as He says to me,

"In my presence, that is where I want you to go. Better is one day in my courts than a thousand elsewhere. I've got other destinations planned for you, far off places and close to home addresses that you can't even imagine, but every destination, every adventure begins with the same starting location – in my presence."

Stop trying to force a map on God. He might give you laser specific directions for your life, journey and next steps. But first, long before He does that, He's going to remind you of the one place He wants you to go most of all,

"In my presence."
